A Flash of Blonde

Pretty cool, isn't it?

After being missing in action for quite some time now, I've come back with a bang. Literally. Like curly, black hair with blonde highlights type of bang.

That's right people, I've highlighted my hair! And it looks epic, if I do say so myself. Granted, I practically had a heart-attack after the first wash, I've really come to like it now. My parents are beyond super! Like, I have my exams in four days, yet they allowed me to highlight my hair! My mom colored her hair a deep burgundy while I opted for the lighter shades, and I'm pretty happy, alright :D

I love, love, love it!

And now, getting back to the grind of things, I've got my exams in two days for a whole week, now :( Words can't convey my anxiety, I tell you!

However, after two weeks, I'm off to India for a holiday in the North! It's going to be the first time I've actually seen the North of India, and I'm pretty excited. Especially since there's going to be a huge birthday party to celebrate my cousin's one year. I heard it's going to be pretty cold, I wonder if it'll snow. Seeing as how I've never seen snow before...

That's all for now then. Hopefully I'll survive this week. Hopefully.

Spiders, brothers and school

So, last night I went to watch * drum roll please* The Amazing Spider-Man, and let me tell you, Toby Maguire hit the sack 'cause we got a better, smarter and more bad-ass spidey with us!

I'm not kidding, but the movie was epic with a capital E! Not only that, the star-cast was epic as well. Guess the producers were smarter this time around, and casted some great eye-candy. Andrew Garfield, not only looks cute, but fits the Spider-man role per-fect-ly! He's just got that young, lanky look about him.

Emma Stone does a good job as well, going back to her roots of blonde locks for the film. And, guess what? Garfield and Stone are not only on-screen couples but off-screen as well! We got a double whammy there, folks!

Since this movie starts off with Peter Parker in high school set in New York, the movie sure had be won over with the first few scenes. Granted, I hadn't really paid attention to the previous trilogy, catching snippets of Toby Maguire and his do, I have no doubt that this amazing spider-man will totally boom!

Moving onto less fiction and more reality, I'm back to school come Monday. Oh, alright, school started two days back but I didn't go seeing as how I had to spend those precious few days with my baby cousin brother who's just six months, by the way. It's back to the grind for me, with my year 10 coming around. Let's just hope this year passes quickly for me...

Book Review: Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer

Bloodrose (Nightshade #3)
by Andrea Cremer

Calla has always welcomed war.
But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.

Recommended for: People who will join me in a wild rampage to hunt Shay till his demise.

Review:

This book completely BLEW ME and I needed to rant and rave...Wait...cut that, this is only a RANT!

First off, be warned...this contains spoilers as I see no other way to put across my thoughts and feeling without referring to the book. After all, this is a rant, an outlet to get out my jacked up feelings.

All I can say is...WTF was going on in the ending? RENIER LAROCHE DIES! Like just falls there with his neck broken! How can this happen? HOW? Oh, I know Cremer had to have Calla choose in the end, but was it necessary for her to kill of the main highlight in the entire series? It wasn't as if Shay was anywhere near Ren. I mean, that jackass had no role in Calla's life what-so-ever! Damn that stupid bear for not killing him off in the beginning.
And Calla? Don't even get me started on that fickle-minded chick! She is nothing if not fickle, I tell you. Oh, of course she'll go around telling both Ren and Shay to leave her alone, but then she goes and practically begs Shay to rip her clothes off BEHIND Ren's back.

What kind of girl power is this? This is no girl power...this is freaking lust driven power!

Oh, Cremer's writing was good...beyond awesome. I mean, I loved all the secondary characters, Connor being my favourite. That guy just gets to you. But his girlfriend? Oh God, I can't believe Adne had to face such an awful fate! First her mom's dead, then her dad's cracked his skull open and THEN her brother DIES!

I still can't get over the fact that Ren was killed by Emile. I mean, where is the justice in this? WHERE? It's as if Ren's death had no meaning, and I can sure as hell bet that HIS soul will not R.I.P.

The ending with everyone turning into wolves and wandering off into the forest was, like, the the cracking point for me. I mean, we go through this whole journey with Calla, the jackass and Renier and all we get in the end is some messed up wolf pack who might not even remember what happened to begin with.

All in all, the book was great. It's just my personal feelings over-riding my brain right now, so I think it's better if I didn't give a rating at the mo'.

Cheers

P.S. Why didn't SEE-MUS stay human forever? That jackass DOES NOT deserve to be with the fickle-minded chick, no matter how much I hate her.

P.P.S. Since both the jackass and the fickle-minded chick are both horrible, I suppose they can live their pathetic lives together. Ren can live happily in heaven without this chick tormenting him.

This is more like a rant, let me tell you. God alone knows how I survived reading this book!

And there she comes...

I must admit, I've been MIA for quite some time now, and though I have nothing  in my defense, I'll suffice to say that these past few months have been filled with stuff. Not necessarily good stuff though. Let's just take it this way, if my life was a literal roller coaster, I'd be barfing 24/7 due to the ups and downs, twists and turns.

Moving on to less cryptic news, I'm glad to say that I went back to Dubai this summer for a month. Granted, a month did nothing to quench my love for the place but at least I got to meet my old friends (one of which still remains my best-friend even after two long years) and visit a few memories. But let me tell you, tears were shed alright. Both of the good and bad kind.

I've always considered myself to be strong and able to adapt to various places. But there you go, I got a big swipe in the head when I shifted from Dubai to Jakarta. I'm not saying I found the change unbearable - hell, I was pretty excited to check out a new place. So excited that, in the midst of all this, I didn't really say goodbye to my friends. I mean, I guess it hadn't sunk in that I was going to leave them for something completely new. And then I shifted here and the feeling finally came in full force. I missed my friends. And I still do. In fact, I've come to the conclusion that I have lost the ability to make friends and have kept it in Dubai. Seriously, in the two years in Jakarta, I haven't really made any close friends.

You know of those bittersweet crap everyone keeps talking about? I guess I finally got a taste of that flavour during my stay in Dubai.

Home alone with the abomination

And so, for the first time in my fifteen years of existence, I've been left all alone at home with only my brother for company. Of course, we're having a gala time! (Meaning PlayStation, internet and t.v. marathons running wild) My parents have gone off to Singapore for a day, leaving me in charge of the house and my younger brother for one whole night. This is epic!

But of course, we did have our not-so-gala time last night. The appearance of  a humongous flying cockroach right on top of our heads as we were getting ready to sleep for the night totally ruined the atmosphere. With my brother urging me in the background (Mind you, he wouldn't step one foot inside the room), I armed myself with with a long broom stick and a slipper in hand, marching towards the dreaded abomination.
What followed was a series of me whacking the roach, Aaryan (my brother) coaxing me to do better (the nerve of him) and the roach scurrying along the walls, having a merry time, I'm sure. Finally, I managed to kill off the terror.

Ew. Roaches are so totally not in my books of great things of the world. Seriously, did you know that they can live without their heads? I mean, the only reason they die is because they don't have a way of getting food into their scrawny bodies. How horrible is this?

Oh, and I'm grateful for another thing. Thank God I didn't watch Paranormal Activity 3 yet, like I was supposed to with a group of my friends. I'm sure I wouldn't have slept a wink!

Let's just hope Mama and Papa have bought nice things in Singapore for me. I didn't kill the cockroach for nothing! ;)

Behind the scenes

So, who am I?

I am Nikita.

(Que awesome background music)

Girl going on sixteen, I'm a reader at heart (which is slowly turning into an obsession), a writer extraordinaire (ha, I wish!), a music lover (give me anything except heavy metal), and a food junkie. Not to mention, I love researching about the end of the world (morbid, but fascinating).
Oh, and I like to think of myself as gypsy, seeing as how my family has not stayed in a single place for more than five years. At the ripe age of three, I moved from India to Nigeria (yes, that little place in Africa) and then from there to Dubai (the land of awesome belly-dancing songs and dune bashing) and now I'm in Jakarta.

Writing started out as a relaxation, escalated into an addiction, turned into an obsession and is now my passion! I write short stories, am on the verge of completing my first full length novel and am forever searching the internet for writing competitions and giveaways.
I also read. A lot. So much so that my mom has to give me a warning to stop reading for the day. Like I said, it's bordering on obsessing right now and getting a new Kindle has so not curbed it. :)

And so, the blog journey of Gypsy Niki has started.

Oh yeah, and welcome to my blog.
